"Exhibition in Print" Overview:
- It will be curated by an experienced and internationally recognized art
juror -- Scott A. Shields, Ph.D., Chief Curator, Crocker Art Museum
- There will be a Prize: $1,000 for Best in Show selected by our Curator
- Each accepted artist will receive a two page spread in the 2010 Annual
Edition of Mosaic Art Now. One page will be devoted to a full photograph of
the accepted work; the second page will hold two detailed photographs of the
work, an artist statement of approximately 150 words, and contact
information.
- Artists are encouraged to use this opportunity to sell their work with
no commission costs by providing a price and direct contact information
which will be included in both the magazine and our website. Work need not be for sale to be included.
- PDF files of the completed pages useful for personal marketing efforts
will be provided to the accepted artists at no cost after publication.
- There are NO shipping costs associated with participating in this
exhibition.

Eligibility
This exhibition is open to artists anywhere in the world 18 years or older.
All styles, categories and genres of mosaic will be considered: fine art,
decorative, functional, sculptural, public and architectural installations, etc.
Only original artwork created by the entrant will be considered. No
reproductions, copies, or interpretations of work created by another artist in
any genre or media will be accepted.
Mosaics that have appeared in previous editions of Mosaic Art Now, either in
the gallery section or in articles, will not be eligible for this competition. Mosaics which have appeared in the Mosaic Art Now blog or the Mosaic Yearbook from any year are eligible.
The editors of Mosaic Art Now and members of their families are not eligible
to participate.
Entry Fees and Payment
Each entry may include up to two mosaics. Artists may submit multiple
entries.
The entry fee is $30.00.
Entry fees can be paid online by credit card or through the mail by check.
Payment is US Dollars only.
Critical Dates

November 11, 2009 (11:59 EST) : SUBMISSIONS CLOSED
December 10, 2009 : Notification to Artists
December 15, 2009 : High resolution photographs of accepted works and artist
statements due

How to Enter
Submissions are accepted digitally through the Mosaic Art Now website.
Please follow the directions carefully and, if possible, please don’t wait until
the last minute. We would like to avoid any possible technical difficulties.
Image Requirements for Entries
For each mosaic entered, you must submit one image of the complete work and two
detail images for a total of 3 images. Submission images must be at least 800
pixels in height and width.
Please consider submitting images that capture all of the unique aspects of your
work including reflectivity, texture, sculptural aspects, relief, and/or use of
unusual materials or tesserae.
You do not need to send large files for the submission process.
You may encounter problems uploading files over 1 megabyte in size during the
submission process if you do not have a high speed internet connection.
Image Requirements for the Magazine
High resolution images are required for printing in the magazine. If your work
is accepted for the exhibit, you must provide high-resolution images (one full,
two detail) that are at least 3000 pixels in height and 2250 pixels in width @
300 dpi by December 15th. The editors reserve the right to disqualify accepted
artists from the exhibit if they fail to meet this requirement.
Granting of Rights to Reproduce Images
Accepted Exhibit Artists grant rights to the editors of Mosaic Art Now to
reproduce the images and information about the mosaics and artists in postcards,
posters, or website for publicity purposes. Artists retain all ownership and
copyright to their work and images.
Notification
All Accepted Artists will be notified by email on December 10, 2009. The results
will not be made public until the magazine is published or the editors of Mosaic
Art Now choose to announce it.
Payment
Best in Show: The artist named Best in Show is responsible for payment of any
local or federal taxes related to the prize and must submit an IRS W-9 form
before payment is released. Payment will be made by check in US Dollars.
Sales of Mosaics: Mosaic Art Now is happy to promote the sale of any mosaic
included in the Exhibition. Please note, however, that those transactions will
be entirely between the artist and potential buyer. The artist is responsible
for any local or federal taxes related to such transactions.
About the Curator
Scott A. Shields holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in art history and is currently is the
Associate Director and Chief Curator at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, an
institution with an internationally acclaimed ceramics collection. The Crocker
has been selected to host the International Academy of Ceramics Conference and
Members’ Exhibition in the summer of 2012.
Shields has curated numerous exhibitions and written articles for various
scholarly journals. He recently authored Artists at Continent’s End: The
Monterey Peninsula Art Colony, 1875-1907, which was published by The University
of California Press in conjunction with a statewide traveling exhibition. In the
past year he has written exhibition catalogues concerning ceramist Toshiko
Takaezu and wood sculptor Robert Cremean. He was the curator and one of three
primary authors of Dark Metropolis: Irving Norman’s Social Surrealism, published
by Heyday Books. Most recently, Shields has authored catalogues featuring early
California painter Edwin Deakin and Southern California impressionist Benjamin
Chambers Brown.
The Crocker Art Museum is the longest continuously operating art museum in the
western United States and the leading art institution for California’s Capital
Region and Central Valley. In the fall of 2010, a new, 125,000 sq. ft. addition
to the original Gallery Building, supported by a historic $100 million capital
campaign, will open to the public. This expansion project will result in a
165,000 square-foot facility three times the size of the existing museum.
