While the details aren’t available yet on the RavennaMosaico website, now is the time to start planning for this outstanding event.
In 2009, the MAN blog received postcards from publicist JoAnn Locktov and artist Julie Richey which captured the spirit, vibrancy and cultural opulence of this city-wide mosaic mardi gras.   You’ll find the links to those posts at the end of this one.

The First International Festival of Contemporary Mosaic

Ravenna, 8 October – 20 November 2011

The Municipality of Ravenna and the International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists (AIMC) organize the second edition of  RavennaMosaico, the First International Festival of Contemporary Mosaic. The Festival due on 2011, will opens the 8th of October 2011, hosting exhibitions, new commissions and acquisitions, an international conference, debates, conferences, presentation of specialist publications, till the 20th of November.

The International Festival of Contemporary Mosaic will involve the whole city and the cultural institutions in a program devoted to the contemporary of an expressive technique that characterizes the artistic and cultural memory of Ravenna.

For this reason, the City of Ravenna and AIMC are pleased to invite the members to propose works to be submitted to a selection for the construction of pathways in the exhibition spaces more suggestive of the city.

The exhibition will be divided into a photographic section, dedicated to projects which illustrate the relationship between mosaic and architecture, and a section devoted exclusively to the presentation of contemporary mosaic works.

Please fill in the technical annex on the section to which you intend to participate, and return it along with the application form and a brief description of your artistic activity, not later than 25th March  2011.

The candidacy is possible for both sections.

We also indicate the intention to publish a catalog.

Kind regards.

As we understand it, you must be a member of AIMC to submit work for consideration.  However, that is easily handled on their website here.  The cost for annual membership is $70 Euro for new members and $35 for renewing members.
It appears that there are still details to be worked out – the website hasn’t been updated for 2011, for instance – but it is never too soon to count your frequent flyer miles or get into the studio.  As we know more, so will you.
